My first time witnessing someone pass to the other side

To the man who held my hand in hospice: From the moment I walked in, I could see you were severely struggling. It was my first time witnessing someone die. Although we were strangers, you clutched onto my hand as I tried to comfort you while the other aids assisted you. I wish I could have stayed longer with you. I hope your pain is gone now.

To the woman who had a sad look on her face and couldn’t find her way to her room: When we put you to bed, it gave me great sadness to see you curl into a ball against the wall. I wanted to stay with you and provide more comfort. It was only my first day at work, so I couldn’t stay longer, but I wanted to. Sometimes humans just need the company of others. Memory or no memory, I know you are aware. And I know you feel confused and alone.

We never know when our last day will be. We don’t know how it will end for us. I pray for everyone out there now is loving to the fullest, praising God, and treating their bodies well. Our time here is not endless, and it truly is a precious thing.
